I personally love the scape and run parasites, i hate them all for the right reasons and personally love the change of atmosphere they bring to the game. Need to rename it to the Lost and Found Cities. the solution was the claim plugins which deleted the contents of the chests. yes is 2.9.The reason why so many mobs spawn in the lost cities is because of a debug called "call of the hive". This debuff increases mob spawnrates so much that it basically makes it so that you don't have a second where you aren't fighting for your life. Luckily, silver armor prevents this debuff, so maybe try that.
